Introducing the NOMOS Tangente Automatik
Fresh from its debut at Baselworld, say hello to the Tangente Automatik - the new, automatic version of the award-winning NOMOS wristwatch.
NOMOS Tangente Automatik: Old Tradition meets New Design
At 6.9mm, the Tangente Automatik with its automatic caliber is just a tick wider than the hand-wound version, or 0.3 millimeters to be exact. Housed inside the classic round stainless case with its straight lugs, this is the brand new Tangente model from NOMOS Glashütte.
Each aspect of the of the Tangente Automatik has been conceived with the wearer in mind. From its narrow hands in black oxidized steel, even Bauhaus numerals and slender indices, to the decentralized seconds in red lacquer that can’t help but be noticed. From the inside out, the Tangente Automatik performs a single, distilled function: perfect timekeeping. Add to this the galvanized silver-plated face and glare-proof sapphire glass and the NOMOS Tangente Automatik is recognizable a mile away, and legible at a glance.
Finally, securing the NOMOS Tangente Automatik in place is Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan. For more than 100 years, the Horween Leather Company has been making the world’s best leather. Soft, supple, and nearly indestructible, it’s a perfect fit from the first day. Imported directly from the atelier in Chicago, this is the art of leatherwork at its finest.
Next Generation: The Automatic Caliber DUW 3001
A new movement for a new watch. The automatic caliber DUW 3001 is the latest addition to the NOMOS family. Ultra-thin yet chronometer-standard, the DUW 3001 combines the best watchmaking craftsmanship with the latest high-tech. Just 3.2mm tall with a 42 hour power reserve, this caliber stands for tradition and innovation - just like the NOMOS Tangente Automatik.
Tangente Automatik: The Nomos Swing System
Thinness and accuracy; two concepts that aren’t easy to combine. To achieve this, the NOMOS designer Theodor Prenzel does two things: First, the majority of the DUW 3001 components are inserted between the base plate and the three-quarter plate, keeping the top plate clear. Second, the production tolerance for components is reduced by up to 50 percent. That way, the movement can maintain accuracy despite its size. Visible through the sapphire crystal placed into the back of the Tangente Automatik, the DUW 3001 is finished to NOMOS standards with a blue balance spring, a NOMOS balance bridge, blued screws, Glashütte ribbing, and NOMOS perlage.
The system of the balance, balance spring, escape wheel and pallet is known by many names: assortiment, reglage, escapement, and now - the NOMOS swing system. This unique component makes the Tangente Automatik tick in an entirely new way, but still with unbeatable accuracy. Designed and built entirely in-house using the highest quality materials, this component doesn’t just set the pace of the watch, it sets the pace for the competition, too.
