It does not often happen that a supplier from the watch industry lets a press crew into their factory. On the one hand, they like to operate in the background since they’re not the stars – those are the brands. On the other hand, these companies have a lot to guard when it comes to industrial secrecy.
For the first time in recent history, Switzerland’s second largest movement manufacturer, Sellita, let us into their facility to show you how their movements are made. We saw much more than that, though. Sellita is not only a movement manufacturer: They have their own engineering department that builds the machines they use to assemble parts. They also research and improve other company’s calibers, correcting their usual faultiness.
Our guide for the day was none other than Mr. Sébastien Chaulmontet, Head of Innovation and Marketing, who told us all about the past and present of Sellita. He also shared some secrets about what’s in the pipeline for the La-Chaux-de-Fonds-based brand’s future.
